Meshy generates textured 3D models from a text description or a single image. Models come back sized to real-world height with their origin at the bottom, so they arrive standing on the ground at a plausible size, with no rescaling needed.
You can run Meshy two ways:
- With MCP for Blender Premium: no Meshy account or API key. Meshy uses its latest model, Meshy 7.1, and each model counts as one standard generation.
- With your own Meshy API key: needs a paid Meshy plan, and you pay Meshy directly.
Setup
With Premium
-
Subscribe at mcp-for-blender.com/premium.
-
Make sure the addon is up to date: run
uvx mcp-for-blender@latest update, then restart your MCP client and Blender. Meshy through Premium needs the latest addon. -
Activate your license key in Edit → Preferences → Add-ons → MCP for Blender under 3D Generation. See Activate your license key.
-
Activating turns Meshy on in the current scene. In other scenes, press N in the 3D viewport, open the MCP for Blender tab and tick Meshy. The sidebar shows Runs through Premium.
Generations come out of your monthly Premium allowance.
With your own API key
-
Get an API key from meshy.ai/developers/keys. It needs a paid Meshy plan.
-
In Blender, press N in the 3D viewport and open the MCP for Blender tab.
-
Tick Meshy under AI Model Generation, choose a Model (Meshy 7.1 or Meshy 6), and paste your key.
You can also set the key with the BLENDERMCP_MESHY_API_KEY environment variable in the environment Blender is launched from. See Configuration.
Generation Workflow
Your AI generates models with generate_3d, which submits the job, waits for it, and imports the result in one call. If generation takes longer than the wait time, it returns a job handle and the AI calls it again to keep waiting.
generate_3d(prompt="wooden rocking chair", provider="meshy")With Premium, Meshy is the first generator generate_3d tries when it's switched on. With your own keys, Meshy comes after Hunyuan3D and Hyper3D Rodin. Pass provider="meshy" to make sure.
Meshy sizes the model to real-world height and puts its origin at the bottom, so it's ready to place. Check the world bounding box only if it needs to fit something specific in your scene.
Quality
| Input | Premium | Your own key |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Meshy 7.1, standard | Model chosen in the sidebar |
| Image | Meshy 7.1, standard | Model chosen in the sidebar |
Meshy doesn't take a quality setting. With Premium, every Meshy generation counts as standard, so it works on every plan and doesn't use your high-quality allowance.
Best For
Use Meshy when you need a single custom object that isn't available in Poly Haven, Sketchfab, or Poly Pizza, and you want it at the right size without fixing the scale by hand.
Furniture, tools and set dressing that arrive at a plausible size, standing on the ground.
Turn concept art or a reference photo into a textured model.
Limitations
- Generate one object at a time. Don't generate whole scenes, ground planes, or parts to assemble; duplicate earlier results instead.
- Prompts are limited to 800 characters.
- Image-to-3D takes one image, as a local file path or URL. Images attached in the chat can't be passed to Blender.
- Your own key needs a paid Meshy plan. If Meshy reports a credit, workspace or plan limit, your assistant passes on Meshy's message.
Example Prompts
- "Generate a wooden rocking chair with Meshy"
- "Use Meshy to turn /Users/me/Desktop/lamp.png into a 3D model"
